THE RAINSTORM AT LIMBE, MALAWI

DAMAGE TO OUR LADY OF WISDOM SCHOOL
Sr Marie-Louise Nakhuluma DW

On 24th December 2017, in the afternoon, at 16.00pm, stormy rains started and strong wind blew off the roof of one of the school blocks of Our Lady of Wisdom Secondary school in Limbe, in the archdiocese of Blantyre.

This powerful stormy rain left our institution in shambles.  The whole roof together with timbers was thrown away from the building, leaving the iron sheets in tartars.  In addition to this, part of the laboratory block was affected.  After the roof had been carried away, the rains continued pouring heavily causing the remaining ceiling to get soaked and collapse.  Chairs and desks and even the walls of the building have been affected because of water.

The storm also uprooted big trees.  They have damaged some of the electrical power lines on the property.  The runoff water blocked drainage system of the brick fence shaking its foundation thus leaving part of the fence wall very week while one part of it collapsed.

Currently the school administration is in a fix to repair these damaged classrooms.  This very building was repaired in 2016 thus this situation leaves us in a financial dilemma.

Thank God, nobody was injured.  But our wish is to really be able to continue the mission of educating the girls in this institution at Limbe.

We thank you for your generosity in supporting the rehabilitation of the buildings in order to offer good schooling conditions to the students of our school.
